Group
Classes
Group classes offered for all instruments.
Every effort is made to schedule these classes at a suitable time
for faculty and parents. We recognize that these times
are not convenient for everyone,
however, group classes are not optional. Group class is an integral
part of the instruction and an essential element in the Suzuki
method of music education.
Ear Training, and Theory for Book 2 and above Students
Three classes in Music Appreciation will be
taught each session. This class, consisting of 45 minutes of
instruction in harmony, pitch,
rhythm, composition and history of music, is designed for WSSM
students of any instrument, studying at a book 2 level or above.
These classes
are held at the Greensburg Garden and Civic
Center and are grouped by ability. Also offered, musicianship for
non-WSSM students.
Musicianship
Various classes in musicianship are offered to Suzuki and non-Suzuki
students. These classes provide background in Kodaly, Orff, Solfege
and music theory.

Kindermusik
Kindermusik is
an early childhood music and movement program based on the beliefs
that every child is musical, every parent
is the child's most important teacher, the home is the most important
place for learning to take root and grow, and that based on research,
music nurtures a child's cognitive, emotional, social, language
and physical development. From birth through seven years of age,
your
child can grow with Kindermusik without pressure to perform, only
encouragement to explore, express and discover. You'll see a developmental
evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving,
social skills, self-esteem and musicality!
With every Kindermusik program, your Kindermusik At Home materials include
the highest quality music recordings on CD - a diversity of vocal
and
instrumental arrangements your whole family will enjoy. While materials
vary with each program, many include creative activities, children's
literature from the Kindermusik Library, along with specially designed
instruments to complement the music and extend your child's learning
into your home.
Kindermusik Village - ages newborn to 1 1/2
years
Provides the natural learning your child
is ready for from the first days of
life. With you at the center of his discovery, Village engages
all his senses and rewards his curiosity with object and
instrument exploration,
vocal play, singing, creative movement and a colorful literature
component. Multi-level activities encourage you to make creative
choices as he grows from a lap baby to a crawler to a walker.
And Kindermusik Foundations of Learning insights, shared in class and at
home, show you how the activities you share foster his unique
development.
Village opens new windows - to show your baby more about the world and
to show you more about your baby. Kindermusik Village At Home
materials
include state-of-the-art music on CD. Baby's Home Journal,
beautifully illustrated
Baby's Books, art banners and a carry bag.
Kindermusik Our Time - ages
1 1/2 to 3 years
Focuses on your child's
healthy emotional development as her confidence, curiosity, self-control,
and communication begin to take shape.
Our Time recognizes
her need for both the freedom to try and the assurance of
your support. Instrument exploration nurtures her self-esteem
and facilitates her discovery
of textures and sounds. Language skills are fostered with
singing,
sound imitation, rhyming and object identification. Creative
dancing to different musical "moods" develops her sense of
balance, timing and spatial awareness while affirming her urge
to move. The anticipation
and rewards begin to blossom. Essentially, Our Time provides
a safety of training wheels for the bicycle of pre-school!
Kindermusik Our
Time At Home materials include two CDs, two Music and Movement
Books, a Home Activity Book, and a specially designed instrument,
all to
encourage self-directed play and the experimentation introduced
in pre-school.
Imagine
That - ages
3 - 5 years
Encouraging the storyteller inside
your child, Growing continues his
creative, musical development while building on his pre-school
learning. In
a small-group setting, instrument play is introduced to
foster fine motor skills as well as familiarity with basic concepts
like rhythm,
pitch and timbre. Vocal exploration develops his singing
voice, and creative movement strengthens his coordination. Listening
activities
cultivate discrimination and memorization skills while
peer interaction affirms social skills. In Growing, the thinker,
creator and musician
in your child come together and suddenly the little butterfly
has new musical ways to explore the world and to express his
discoveries.
Growing With Kindermusik At Home materials include an illustrated songbook,
child's activities and crafts, parent-guided activity cards,
professionally
produced music on CD and a carry bag.
Kindermusik
for the Young Child - ages
4 1/2 to 7 years
For your budding musician,
Young Child provides a pressure-free, developmentally appropriate
transition where she can musically
succeed
before taking on more formal instruction. In small, movement-oriented
classes,
your child develops her greatest instrument - her voice
- while she learns the symbols and vocabulary of music making.
She develops instrument-playing
skills with the introduction of the glockenspiel, recorder
and dulcimer, as listening activities strengthen her ability
to discern a variety
of instruments and musical concepts. Through creative
learning activities, she begins to read music and to create musical
compositions
- tangible
accomplishments that instill positive emotions about
her own musicality. Soon, a request of "Mom, I want to take piano" may
surprise you. Kindermusik for the Young Child At Home materials
include
a folder full of
activities, an illustrated family songbook, a games bag,
professionally recorded
music on CD, a musical instrument and a carry bag.
